Blue Bonnet Field VII | Floral Canvas or Framed Print | Various Sizes
For only a few short weeks, you’ll see bluebonnets in full bloom across the Northern parts of Texas. Their blooming window is typically only for the month of April and sometimes lasts up until May. In 1932, the department hired Jac Gubbels, its first landscape architect, to maintain and preserve wildflowers and other native plants along public routes. By 1934, the department rules delayed all mowing until the wildflower season was over. This practice has stayed in place for more than 60 years and has expanded into today's full-scale vegetation management system.
