1858 Map of Texas
Nothing says nostalgia quite like a beautifully framed old-school map, don't you think? Entered in 1858 at the Clerks Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Texas by Pressler, Chas. W. Jones. Pressler was a mapmaker and surveyor for the Texas General Land Office, and his wonderfully detailed 1858 map of the state of Texas expertly displays relief shown by hachures. Hachures are an older representation of specific shapes of the land’s terrain. Pressler’s 1858 map also shows the state’s original land districts as well as longitude West from Greenwich and Washington.
