Ballerina Dancer | Edgar Degas Masters Classic Art in Gallery Wrapped Canvas | Various Sizes
Edgar Degas was a French artist famous for his depictions of ballerinas. Degas also created bronze sculptures, but he was most well-known for his pastel drawings and oil paintings. Around 1860, Degas developed a fascination with dance, which he originally discovered at the Paris Opera. Nicknamed the “painter of dancers,” more than half of his works depict dancers either backstage or on stage. Although Degas was regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, he preferred to be called a realist and never painted outdoors, as so many famous Impressionists did.
