A Dash for the Timber Canvas
When he was just 28 years old, Frederic Remington painted A Dash for the Timber in 1889. Between 1885 and 1888, Remington made several trips to discover the great 'wild' American West, where he covered the U.S. Cavalry's activities and its pursuit of rebel Apaches. This theme can be seen in a number of his works, alongside Remington's love for the Southwest's distinct landscapes and vivid light. This painting helped put Remington on the map after A Dash for the Timber received much critical acclaim.
