The Gadsden flag is a historical American flag depicting a coiled timber rattlesnake that’s ready to strike. Beneath the rattlesnake, you'll find the words: "Don't Tread on Me." The flag is named after American general and politician Christopher Gadsden, who designed it during the American Revolution. The timber rattlesnake can be found throughout the area of the original Thirteen Colonies. Its use as a symbol of the American colonies can be traced back to Benjamin Franklin. In 1751, he first made mention of the rattlesnake in his Pennsylvania Gazette. It had been the policy of Parliament to send convicted criminals to the Americas (primarily Georgia), so Franklin suggested that they thank them by sending rattlesnakes to Britain.

Our framed flags are delivered ready to hang, with wire hangers included and no additional framing needed. Each flag is embroidered on a cotton cloth and then handcrafted, steamed, ironed & pinned down to ensure the placement & quality within the frame.
