A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie is a landscape oil painting by German-American painter Albert Bierstadt in 1866. The image was inspired by sketches created on an expedition, where Bierstadt traveled to the Rocky Mountains. On this expedition, he was taken to the Chicago Lakes beneath Mount Evans. Here, Bierstadt exaggerated the landmark's scale and introduced dramatic weather to thrill his audience. The painting was named after Bierstadt's mistress and, at the time, his friend and travel partner's wife, Rosalie Osborne Ludlow, who Albert later went on to marry.
